piece of the Berlin Wall at the new embassy

"New U.S. Embassy in Berlin Showcases American Art"--it's me with Thierry Noir, the (French) artist who not only restored the piece but also painted the original version on the wall 20-some years ago. The piece from the Berlin Wall was installed earlier in the morning, and then the Elsworth Kelly statue you see on the website was installed using the same crane in the afternoon.

It's interesting--the painted side actually faces in towards a window in the embassy, so it will be best viewed from the inside. The wall was also deliberately placed so that the painting faces west, and the east side is blank.
