David Nicholas arrived Thursday morning, September 17th!!!
After a full day of training and some after-work errands on Wednesday night, we came home and started dinner when Christy's water broke. We got to the hospital around 9 pm that night. Christy's contractions had started but she wasn't feeling them very much yet so the doctor put her on Petocin to get things going. She managed to beat David in a game of Scrabble (or maybe David let her win) and held on until about 1:30 when she asked for the epidural. This was a pretty good move since it allowed both of us to sleep through the night, and when we woke up at 7 am Christy was fully dilated. After about 3 hours of pushing, though, the doctor said that little David was pushing against Christy's pelvic bone and needed some help getting out. He wasn't far enough down for forceps or a vacuum so the doctor decided we needed to have a C-Section. David Nicholas was born at 11:13 a.m., weighed in at 8 pounds 2 oz. and 21.9 inches, and is perfectly healthy.
Grandma and Grandpa Machak drove down from Ohio and got to meet their grandson once we got back to the recovery room. They were also here to celebrate David's 28th birthday with us in the hospital. We stayed in the hospital over the weekend and enjoyed visits from lots of great friends. Monday afternoon we came home--the diplocat was very happy to see us and has been great with Nicholas. Mommy and Daddy have been trying to figure out a schedule and get some sleep. Nicholas had his first doctor's visit on Tuesday and has another one this afternoon to make sure he's been gaining enough weight before we go into the weekend (we are breastfeeding so it's hard to measure how much he is eating).
Now for the good stuff: pictures! (except the video at the end they are pretty much in reverse chronological order so you might want to start at the bottom)

Moe likes hanging out under the bouncer
like father like son-- David likes sleeping with his elbow up too
Mommy likes this outfit
baby's first bath at home-- we have to do sponge baths until the umbilical cord stump falls off

eyes wide open and looking around
Moe cat comes and cuddles with an exhausted Mommy (due to a diaper changing incident the sheets were in the washer)

Moe likes hanging out under the computer lap table too
Nicholas loves his swing
first time in the bassinet-- this one lasted about 5 minutes but the second and third nights he's done really well.
as you can tell, David Nicholas likes to sleep a lot.
